what they said if it is a maxtor it will happen untill the jumper is removed

happened with the one i installed in mom's system

34 gig max with jumper, 40 without jumper

it didn't come with any instructions or labels where should I put the jumper

do a search on the web for the hard drive that you have. there are usually instrictions online.
Maxtor is generally very good with having its technical instructions online..its just a matter of finding the bloody things.

yeah i finally figured it out

all i had to do all this time was remove the jumper so there wasn't one on there and now it works fine. I wish the company would have told me that from the begining.
