Quicktime - please no iTunes

I imagine you'll need either QuickTime or QT Alternative. At least one of them, since iTunes actually uses QT for playback.

That's pretty much what I thought, however I got excited when I saw all of these possibilities :nervous:

QuickTime is one of those programs you don't install unless you need to. For me it is like that anyhow. I don't hae it installed now, it is working great so far. It's the same thing with real player. I haven't had it installed in almost a year. I have yet to find any real need for it.

This is just my opinion. Please take it as such .. :)

I find it the same Jonny, It's a program installed only as needed. I just got a new harddrive, so fresh install of windows, and I dont have Quicktime installed and probably wont need it for some time now.

True dat.

I banned Real Player a long time ago b/c of the various nefarious start up entries it places.

Agent? WTF .... :)

I have no issues with Quciktime, you install it and it just sits there until relevent content appears on a webpage... its not invasive, doesn't hog background processes ... is there really a need for a light version?

Of course Realplayer is a different matter.

Total agreement, esp since you can configure QT out of the systray and suchlike, it is no hog - but I have BIG issues with iTunes after a bad experience on someones computer where they wanted to stay with MusicMatch and had put it in - damn that took some serious work to sort out!

Hence this thread, of course.

Yeah, I steer clear of that myself ... but of course I have a Zen so no reason to use it :)

I agree, and no there isn't a need for a light version.

However, since I don't think I have EVER used it, I don't see a point to have it on my machine. Just one of those things that if you don't need it, why is it here?

Then again, as NetRyder pointed out, iTunes uses QT for playout, so, maybe I have used it, once :p

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
