Processes in the Background

What processes can I shutdown through TaskManager, in order to get better performance when gaming? When I used to run win98se, I could shutdown everything but IEXPLORE.EXE, & one other (I forget which).

I have seen a list of Processes that you can do without under XP, but, fool that I am, did not save it.

Best list I have found is ---> here . Click on "libraries of answers" then on the next page at the right, click on "the task list". It is sorted alphabetically and is fairly thorough.
