I use Crazy Browser, a freeware add-on to Internet Explorer that changes IE a bit, but also offers full pop-up protection. Since installation, I've never seen another pop-up.

Adshield is another good one. I haven't seen a popup ad in a couple years.

You could always disable java script within IE, it can cause a few minor problems (depending on the sites you visit of course), but nothing major.

Or if your willing to give an alternative browser a try, both Mozilla (link) and Opera (link) have in-built pop-up blockers.

I used to use the proxomitron but after reading this thread I gave Meaya a try and it was enough for me to uninstall the proxomitron.

My second try at a good one was Pop-Up Stopper Pro, and I didn't try any after that. So I can't say that it's the best since I haven't tested everything, but it does the job perfectly. Get it here.
