NTL now NOT to impose rigid cap

to be honest its not about being fair, its about buisness. the whole country could be broadband enabled, if businesses didnt compete against each other, or if cost wasnt a factor.

It doesnt work on fairness though, nothing does in buisness.

Thing is, all these people who say that you should'nt be using it that much, its only for warez etc. I say, kiss my ass
No thanks

and why? Well, i pay 25 quid a month for a 600k (always on) link, and i will bloody well use that link how I please. If you dont like that - tough, what's that NTL - you dont want my 25 quid - you want to disconnect me - well, go ahead, i dont give a monkeys i'll just move to an another service provider.
Yeah, you pay for a contract with NTL, which has terms and conditions which you need to respect and follow. If you feel that strongly, then terminate the account and get a new ISP.

So tell me idiots, exactly what do you waste your money on each month with BB if you not file sharing? And dont tell me its because you want web pages to load faster cause your a total money wasting muppet if thats the case, you can only download demo's once, and a cheapy 128k link is more than enough for online gaming. So why do they offer 512K, 1Mb And 2Mb Connections (so you cant use it?).
1mb and 2mb lines are meant for businesses, if you want that sort of speed at home, then YOU'RE wasting money.
As for loading webpages faster...whats wrong with that?
I happen to go on a lot of sites each and every day, i want them to load a bit faster...
I also download open source apps, funny mpegs, flash anims, pictures, comics, and so on. there are other uses for BB than p2p.

Also, you dont hear all the swedish and american ISP's complaining when they offer 2mb links that everyone is filesharing.
Yeah, also look into their hosting plans etc, they're technology is more advanced and easily available, meaning it's cheaper for them to run an ISP, passing on these saving to the customer. I know people on 8mb+ lines, we can't even get that in the UK, let alone unlimited and cheap.

exactly SPeedY_B the whole point of this is i wish i were given a broad band option so people should be grateful with what they have got!

:p

As for a gig a day i think that is damn reasonable as hell even if you a total illegal software junky thats still 1 and a 1/2 ISOs per day !what mearly bites me is the price of dial up isps they are an absolute rip off (btw speedy what music you in to do you recon on yourself as a bit of a mixer?)

Thats right, I, as a customer of NTL have agreed to a 12 month contract, which was signed for under the understading that it was an unmetered and unmonitored service, as specified in their own advertising. Then they decided to impose a 1GB limit, merely a month after signing and i cant do squat about it except stand up for ourselves and demand what we we originally signed up for.

My point is not that i want to/or do use more than 1GB per day for P2P or whatever, but that if i want to i should be able to under the terms that i signed up to.

I cant understand the mentality of people who dont know better but like to get up on their soap box for a good rant anyhoo in defense of the poor old ISP's.

Sort it out.

I thought the whole point is you could go over the gig limit per day but frequent offenders get a slapped wrist

Guarenteed, somewhere near the bottom of the rather large terms and conditions (which no-one reads) there is a line stating "Terms and conditions are subject to change without notice" giving NTL (or any other corporate *******s :D) the right, or at least excuse, to screw over the little people.

I see your point that you've signed up for something, then had it basically revoked. Same happened to me on Dial-up with BTInternet, went from unlimited to 150hours/month usage... you could be restricted on hours! think about that :)

indy, yeah still an iso and then some every day ;) and yeah, it was never a strict rule, just a friendly reminder to those who abuse the network.
As for the music, Happyhardcore, upfront, freeform, nu-style, gabber etc. I'm a Dj at lost the plot and have a record coming out on camel records some time soon (being mastered next week)

Speedy_B, the fact NTL boasts about Downloading movies and Mp3s faster on a 1mb HOME connection is proof enough that NTL are complete arsehats!!

notice the HOME word used there not BUSINESS ;)

On channel NTL, its the same BS Download MP3's and movies at 20x faster than dial-up and im sure there not talking about free music are they ;) and thus i will do as they say and Dl music and Mp3's at 20x faster as much as i like :)

Noticed that recently actually, that DSL and cable companies before where advertising
"ALL NEW BB!! WEEE!! FAST"
then they moved onto
"UP TO 10x FASTER THAN DIAL-UP"
then they got more specific wtih
"GAMERS! NO TEH LAG! OMG ROFL LOOOL"

but now they are blatantly aiming broadband at P2P users stating that movies, games, apps, porn, warez, more porn, and your pop-ups can be downloaded quicker.
The companies are fecking stupid, they can't make their minds up.

I didnt think Mr Knapp was a counterstrike player tbh

I have the 1Mb NTL connection at home and fair enough, people will say thats a waste of money, but tbh it isnt for me. We have 3 computers which are usually all online at the same time - 2 of which are usually being used for online gaming usually at the same time. I have had less problems with bandwidth being available for each computer since upgrading to the 1Mb service so thats my reasoning behind it - so its not always a waste of money for the home user.

I think too many people are taking the whole cap thing a little too seriously - at the time I was a bit pi$$ed off about it all because they had advertised their broadband as being totally unlimited and you can download music and films extra fast and play games with no holdups. The most annoying thing is that I had only upgraded to the 1Mb package some 2 months earlier and NTL hadnt either warned their customers of it happening and/or told us when they had done it. Fair enough, most ISPs have a statement in their T&C like "We withhold the right to change any statement in our Terms and Conditions without the need to inform our customers in advance" - but it would be so much better for their customer relations to just let us know - even if its by email (no charge tbh).

By no means am I their perfect customer - I do a lot more than email granny in Australia each day. Some days I exceed the 1Gb cap by a fair amount on a run of some 4 or 5 days - and no, its not all legal downloads but how many of you could honestly say that everything you do on the internet is legal anyway? I've heard nothing from NTL to say I should download less - but saying that, after my 4 or 5 day download spree, I barely do 50-75Mb a day across the whole network so over a period of time, it all kinda evens out... However, I know of people on 1Mb ntl who still push 6-7Gb a day, everyday - and its those people ntl are out to get rid of...

From The Inquirer http://www.theinquirer.net/

LUCKY SWEDES look like they're getting a massive 26Mbit/second cable connection using a technology called VDSL.
Just a few months ago, the same lucky Swedes were getting 2.5Mbit/s ADSL from Bostream and 10Mbit/s from Bredbandbolaget using cable.

And the connection only costs €40 per month.

Makes BT Openworld and NTL's cable service look pretty naff.

Although NTL has dark fibre aplenty running into many London homes, despite a massive advertising campaign offering its cable service, the apparatchiks say some areas will never get cabled up.

From TheBlueRaja www.reallllllllllllypi**edoffnow.com

NTL CAN NOW OFFICIALLY **** RIGHT OFF

So?
foreigners (to the UK) have always had fast connections.

Yeah, and i bet there all downloading movie trailers, and using their connection to "browse the web faster" too...

:D

Yeah, up to 520 times faster than dial-up !!!

It's only because most of our phone system is about 30 years old.
Actually fair play to BT they probably have upgraded most of it by now, but they do seem to drag their feet a bit.

And regards to NTL balls-ing up the collection of money for Broadband connections, it's little wonder they have got a few £Billion in debts!!
