NFS-HP2 car tuning guides?

Not really the best place to post this question, but are there any guides for editing the performance characteristrics for the cars? I don't want to make a skin, just edit the performance.

I found each car has an ini file with tons of settings. While some are fairly obvious, there are others aren't so clear. Oh, I could change something, save, try it out, exit, change something else, save, try it out, etc, etc but that is a little time consuming.

I have been to a few NFS sites out there but haven't found anything like this. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I didn't really think I was gonna get much help on this topic... Oh well.

I was able to figure out the majority of the settings, enough to tweak the vauxhall to perform better than the McLaren. Took a while to get the shift points balanced and the handling to grab the road well yet slide somewhat controlled around corners. For a while the car would grab the road too well and seemed like it was actually on rails (which isn't as good as one would think). So far, I've gotten it to 237 MPH and still able to control it somewhat. Not too bad for a stab in the dark I think :)

rofl... a vauxhall outperforming a mclaren f1... excellent :D

i was wondering if there was a way of editing it... I vaguely remember you could edit the car performance in NFS4 (not that i needed to after downloading the fast and the furious version of the toyota supra WITH nos hehe

where abouts are the ini files u edit? ill av a look around in em and see if theres anything i can understand extra to what you already know :)

Well, in the NFS directory, there is a sub-directory called cars. In that, you'll see directories for each of the seperate cars in there. The dir names are usually enough to figure out which car it is. In each car directory, there are several files. The only one I have been working with is car.ini. There are sometimes several other ini files for the cop mode and the NFS edition of a car, etc; but haven't touched those yet.

I started out looking at the McLaren ini vs the Vauxhall ini and comparing the settings side by side. Since the Vauxhall is so much lower than the McLaren, you can tell how to adjust the settings to give more/less performance. I still have yet to try to find the min/max valid settings for each variable.

Most of the handling is adjusted by setting the aerodynamics and tire (front and rear) attributes.

The performance is adjusted by setting the torque curve and transmission settings.

One thing that is cool is you can have the ini file open for editing, save a change or two, and then start the game and try it out. To adjust something, just exit the race (not the whole game), Alt-tab out of the game, make the change in the ini file (dont forget to save :)), alt-tab back in the game and try out the change you made in a new race.

Something fun to try: for REALLY LONG jumps, adjust the undercar aerodynamics to a low number on a really good car. Next time you take a jump, you will fly MUCH longer (and usually hit something in the progress).

Anyway, I've attached two of the cars I've worked on (vauxhall and the Carrera GT) in case anyone's interested. They have decent top end (200MPH+), but are really set for good takeoff and good out-of-a turn performance. They aren't totally outrageous, but I am happy with the effects. :)

Totally outrageous, but I am happy with the effects.

For Fast High reving cars for nfshp 2 edit car.ini settings also edit carracer.ini for online games in the cars folder,
program files \ea games \need for speed..\cars\elise and so on edit one at a time and drive it.
I read about changing the mass of the car but there is so many more things to play with....
Leave the Gear raito's alone
Lower the diff ratio if you want more take off speed or you only use a few low gears.
Be sure to copy the cars folder to a safe place just incase you need to restore the std cars, there also on the cd to just copy and paste them if you get into trouble

I feel the need for speed now some 400km/h on a straight parts
I will host public game called "Fast Wild Cars" some times so you can try my cars out.
I can post other cars if needed but there is still a lot of work to be done.

*******copy then past into car.ini and carracer.ini for elise****

I now have a web site where you can download my cars.
There are 3 sets Crazy hp, like on ice and 10% more power.
There are some instructions also on how install them for switching between.

Note I loose my one post wonder status now, oh well I got a laught out of it but I saved a screen dump for myself
this is a success story, you found a need, couldn't find a solution, developed a solution and turned it into a business

well done

I wish you well with this site, if I played the game I would be downloading your cars and giving you feedback

thanx for posting back after lo these many years, try to stay around this time and help out

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
hello peeps... is been some time since i last came here.
