If you pull up your system properties there is a tab called network identification. This is where you would change your domain/workgroup.

both workgroups are the same should I be using a domain name instead ? do the computer names need to be the same ?

Unless you have a domain server then leave it as workgroup. The computer name should be different on both. Do you have the same subnet listed for both machines? Do you have identicle user accounts on both machines.

You do not need NetBEUI. I highly recommend not installing it. You have to have identicle users and passwords on both machine.
