I'm presently running an Intel(R)536EP V.92 modem on a K7VTA3 Mother Board. I'm having some SMTP problems and they keep pointing to the modem. It cost me 26 bucks so I'm not worried about replacing it. What I need is some advice on just what modem to buy? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Oh, yes, I'm running the Windows XP Pro OS

I dont think it matters much. Dial up modems all pretty much do the same thing. I used to use a U.S. Robotics modem then I switched to a creative modem. They both connected at 49 to 52k
everytime but that has more to do with your location to a trunk line than it does with the modem. The creative worked fine with xp and every once in a while it would connect at 115.7k. Downloads would jump from 5 to 11k but like I said it did this very rarely.

Thanks for the info Ditchhopper. I had a US Roboics with my last build and I'm going back to them . Their modems are good. I inhereted this Intel from the clone shop that put my present system together. Not sure if it's causing all my SMTP problems. think there's some duplex/simplex bottlenecks or something going on.
    Just not sure.
