Need help!

Ever since I started reading computer forums I been looking into the Desktop sections and icons, sigs, and avatars. And I must say this site has the sickest artwork I have seen by far. I was wondering what programs I need to get started in order to turn my average run of the mill desktop into looking something more of a work of art... How do you guys get all those cool icons so big that are at the bottom of the screen, and where can I find all this stuff... I also want to start create my own sigs, and avatars. How do I go about doing this...

Also can anyone recommend me some good sites on where to find all of this stuff... ? Thanks

Start with PatchXP, can get it right here on this site, it allows you to use themes without a program!
