Multiple Printers & XP

I have two printers that I'd like to use w/ XP: HP Laserjet 3100 and a HP Deskjet 712c.

I've used these two in the past w/ 98 and ME.... and I used a data switch (despite the fact that they all warn NOT to use such).

I had to go to HP to get an XP install cd to make the d*rn LaserJet work properly... that is now in good shape.

However, I can't seem to get the Deskjet to work.

I've:
*uninstalled the printer and let XP 'autodiscover' it
*tried the original cd that came w/ the printer... (no dice)
*I've gone into the bios and tried every setting imaginable... for the Parallel port setting, ECP EPP, etc...... ARG!
*I have gone out to HP to see if they would be so kind as to have an updated driver (nada... they say use the XP autoinstall)
*I've taken the d*rn data switch out of the equation (still nothing)
*I've checked to see if my IWILL board settings for the IRQ/etc. is consistent with what XP thinks is there... and it is in sync....

I can reboot 5 times and have the printer work 1 or 2 out of 5 times..... it does appear that when I change the Bios that the printer will work (for JUST that initial session... when I reboot again, it won't work).

ANY SUGGESTIONS? I'm about at the end of my rope.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

i would suggest checking out hp technical support and seeing what they say. other than that i don't know what to tell you. just keep on tryin and you'll get it to work.

i have 2 printers installed, a Samsung izzi lazer plus II and a Lexmark Z23... Both work fine, aulthough ones paralell and ones usb...

if hp have no driveers try www.driverguide.com

they have allsorts of drivers for allsorts of hardware, also try to install hp's newest win2k driver for both printers see if that makes a difference

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
