How would I go about assiging multiple IPs on one PC?

I'd like my XP PC to accept and requests over the LAN, so wondering if I needed to assign multiple addresses to the NIC, which I don't know how to do :)

Open the Properties for the network connection, then open the properties for the "Internet Protocl (TCP/IP)". Click the Advanced button. Under IP addresses, select Add, and put in the 2nd IP and subnet mask.
