A poignant and, as the critics would say, "real" movie about a jacques cousteau-esque character and his band of merry men as they go through the trials and tribulations of a waning career...

inject into the story a few other characters, namely zissou's son (wilson) and a slightly prego reporter (blanchett) who is along for the ride, and zissou's ex-roommate, jeff goldblum, and you have a nice mix of characters who add many dimensions to the story...

it is a quirky movie, not quite as poignant as "lost in translation" but certainly of a quirky nature many other movies are unlikely to share...

bill murray's acting chops are on full display here, generally with dead-pan delivery but also with a wide range of emotions shared...

the movie does follow a formulaic approach, but it also has a lot of "different" aspects to it.. for large parts it appears as though the movie is itself episodic, but it blends together nicely (IMO)

can't really say much about the movie w/o giving away plot intricacies

highly recommended... watch it if you can...

4/5 OSNN stars...

p.s. this movie I suppose can be classified as a comedic drama :)

Didn't like it, and I'm normally a fan of Wes Anderson's. Seemed like the movie never took off to where it wanted to go.

2/5 OSNN stars.

Wait for video release.

oooh, sharply contrasting views on the movie :)

at the theatre I was at, there were some really old wes anderson shorts shown before the movie, set this one up...

to me, it seemed to be well put together and went where it was supposed to go... what felt lacking for you? stick the "spoiler" tags round it and lets have a chat... ;)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
