whenever i have more than 5 programs open my computer seems to stop responding this is from low memory correct? well i have 256 of DDR pc2100 ram... is there something i should do to improve how xp handles the programs to conserve memory?

it depends on what programs you are running at the same time and what the memory requirements are for those programs. You can try enabling virtual memory and that may help a little...but if you are running programs that have high memory usage i would suggest going out and purchasing another stick.

More memory wouldn't hurt. Next time your system slows down, open task manager and see if anything is eating up your cycles.
