the widows shell is great and all, but is anyone else sick of the played out windopws gui? does anyone here us litestep. or has any experience with it? i created a VERY basic theme last night, its awsome! i liked the windows xp silver scheme, but, its out now!

doesn't anyone use anything besides the standard windows gui??? dare i say its like linux on this site? but really, i'm still using xp as an os, but i'm using my own user interface...
i'll take a screenshot and post it as soon as i get home...

i'd advise looking into Hover Desk.

It completley changes the GUI of Windows and you can download skins or create your own.

It's an amazing app.

hoverdesk is shareware, i don't feel like paying 20-30 dollars for something i can get from somewhere else, for free, and have it be open source, i can easily edit one text file, add a lot of stuff, recycle, and wala, my own gui...
besides the fact that alot of the sites are down, there are stil afew good ones left

its pretty cool once you get goin, can set it up however you want, like int he pic i put before, but the possiblities are endless, check out the litestep section of deskmod.com to see some grade A examples.

how did u get litestep to work. sometimes it goes ok but explorer still loads as well anytime i try to browse my hard drives.

explorer.exe will run when browsing your files. close it and explorer.exe shouldn't run after that.

its a new gui
explorer is a browser, its used to browse your system, techinally, theres nothing stopping it from running a new broswer...
basically, it redoes your interface withyour computer, but, xp still needs the file browser to see files and drives and stuff like that... but, you could get a new file broswer and use that, basically youd be using all your own appz, with windows xp in the bacground holding it together...
actually, that would make it even more stable... i've been running it for a week, and NOT one error. my game theater keeps doing to same old "no more headphones for you today" thing, but i haven't had explorer or anything else show up as an error.

ohohoh, i now what you mean now!
you have to make sure the step.rc file only has to lines, like this

themepath $litestepdir$themes\notes\
include $themepath$step.rc

notes being your theme folder. a restart should clean the registry after installing it, if not, run litestep.exe, make sure the thtme loads, then restart
