i somehow got ****ted with tons of ad-ware

now my homepage has changed to: C:\WINDOWS\secure.html whenever i change that it changes back, whenever i delete it.. it comes back, whenever i edit the source it just changes back, personally i dont see how a single html file can do this without some sort of executable file watching it and replacing it when it gets modified but there are no wierd files running in my task manage either...

any ideas?

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc and delete the hosts file.

Reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\secure.html

reboot back into normal mode and post a new log.

please post a new log, so we can be sure you are clean.

Ad-ware these days is becoming very shadowy - if its something like Coolweb ends up on your system then using Ad-aware, a program that eliminates most spyware won't kill it.

If you post us your log again we can make sure nothing nasty is lurking in the shadows that could bound up and suprise you when you least expect it.

CWS is becoming a very big pain in the ass.

Is that the varient that attached itself on forcer's computer?

no, there are 2 variants that can be hell to remove, usually shows up as
C:\Docs\username\Temp\sp.html
res://asdfaga.dll#45 < this is random

Also, about:blank is set as the homepage, but CWShredder can't find anything. Atleast that is what I look for.

These modify the AppInit_DLLs value in the registry, but in a way that can't be seen easily, to point to a hidden dll that can be very tedious to remove. This infection is what has cause Merijn to stop updates on CWShredder, since it is almost imposible to automate a removal.

thanx

Looks clean to me, make sure you have ALL critical Windows updates and you need to have an Antivirus program, I recommend AVG 6.0 which is free. You should also have a firewall, I recommend Sygate, which is also free.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
