    ...change the color of the text on my desktop icons? It's hard to read my icon names when I have an all white wallpaper, and the text is white surrounded only by a slight gray dropshadow (default setting I assume).

    I looked all throughout the "Appearance" tab of the Desktop Properties with no luck. ...Actually, I did locatate a place where I could change the desktop icon's font, but the color box was grayed out.

    Though it is fairly easy to change the icon text colour in folders, the only way to change it on the desktop, I've ever heard of is to use a third party application. The one I use at the moment is D-Color XP . There are several others.
