Internet not working?

So just finished my comp, it is working great, except for internet.

I have reformatted twice to see if that would fix it, but it hasn't.

I tried the ipconfig in dos prompt, and it only showed the subnet mask and IP Address.

Isn't the default gateway supposed to show up?

I use a router, and sometimes when I reformat I need to remove my ethernet card and put it back in, I have tried this, still not working.

By the way I am using a 3com card on a a7v333 mb.

Oh and my other two computers that are hooked up to the router work fine...and I am using windows xp pro on my new comp, 98 on the other two.

    Any help is appreciated.

I put in manually for the default gateway
192.168.1.1, and I can now ping it, but my internet still doesn't work.

How do I find out what my dns is?(If that is what is causing it not to work...)

can you ping the 98 machines?? on the 98 machines click start -> run -> type winipcfg. on the xp pro machine go to ur local area connection properties. select internet protocol and duplicate the settings that you found on the 98 machines. if that doesn't work open up a DOS window and run ipconfig /all, take a screen shot and post it.

OMG it just started working lol, no idea why, just all of a sudden it works!

I guess setting to the same had to take a few mins for it to work.

    Thanks though!
