A ram drive uses memory to mimic a drive of a particular configuration, you can set up a Ram drive to have the same size and cluster size as a floppy drive, a Fat32 or NTFS drive.

A ram drive is allocated a drive letter just like any other drive and can be seen as either fixed or removable.

As far as the system is concerned it is a drive, it can be formatted, partitioned and of course you can write to and from the ram drive.

As discussed here, the benefits are speed, in that memory is far superior to the fastest of HD and what could be seen as an advantage once the machine is rebooted what ever is in the Ram drive is flushed.

NOTE:
The above is one reason it is not GOOD to use your ram drive as a receptical for the Temp folder, if you load a program or install a new program that requires a reboot, it may have stored part of the install in the temp folder, which of course will be lost on reboot thus crapping out the install ;)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
