IE 6 turns off after security "updates"

Yesterday I committed the cardinal sin of actually downloading several of the updates Microsoft keeps nagging me about. As a result, it seems that any time I click on a link which requires a Java application, my IE 6 application turns off.

I've since downloaded Netscape 6 and it works fine (actually, it works better than IE 6 ever did.)

But I'd still like to have IE 6 work. Is there any way to get the appropriate Java application downloaded and installed so IE 6will not turn off each time Java is required by a site?

Welcome to NTFS. We hope you enjoy your stay here =)

First off... may i commend you on discovering the gray side. Netscape is one step towards a better browsing experience. but of course we must compel you to use Mozilla. (its netscape without all the useless extras)

As for the Java problem. Go download the Java Runtime Environment from www.java.com

Try doing a repair installation on IE. Browse to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" and run ie6setup.exe. This should allow you to do a repair installation. Good luck!

Many thanks to both "Un4gIvEn1" and "mbunny" for their advice. I now have Java functionality back in my Internet Explorer 6.0.

The really good news is that, having tried Netscape for the first time in several years, I am definitely hooked!

I have always had trouble with IE 6.0 accessing web pages in my Discover Card account. It would default to "page not available" as many as 8 or 9 times before it finally, and grudgingly, went to the page. Netscape goes right through the first time. I'm sold.

Gracias, Vaya con Dios...

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
