IE 6 application error. please help.

ok i hqve a win2k machine that everytime you try to run IE it pulls a application error on first load. I dont belive there is spyware but have run both virus checker and Microsoft antispyware and they have come up negative.

Firefox works fine.

IS there a way to reinstall the IE6 completly? iv done the latest update to it (after it was allready broken) and it still does not work..

IM gona try system file checker later today. Any ideas?

EDIT: The registry trick works for Win2K - just verified it. It reverts to IE 5 - then you just run the 6 install again.

Might be a corrupt user profile as well, may not have to go as far as messing with IE. Try from another profile, and if that's the case just back up, blow it away and re-create.

Depending on how customized and how much data, Mastershakes's idea may be less of a headache....good luck

Didn't think of that, good point KC. If that is the case, possible to flush the cache / cookies, delete index.dat - and away we go?

Now that you have taken this track, I bet hijackthis would reveal it.
