http://www.lol.com/

I'd be quite interested in how it works, because I can visit sub-folders via http://www.lol.com/folder but they're on MY machine.

It affects Opera and IE, but not Mozilla, and doesn't use frames, the source is 100% what localhost would output.

It is quite strange :)

I'm pretty sure it just gets port 80, which is the standard HTTP port, but kazaa does use it if the default port (1214) isn't available.

Basically what it does if kazaa uses port 80 (if port 1214 isn't avaiable) than the URL works by somehow just routing back to your computer, http://localhost
If it doesn't work you can get the exalt same thing by just going to http://www.lol.com:1214 (this means that you are not using port 80 with kazaa)

easy as that. You can view other computers on your network or if you have internet pc's ip address just go http://[computer name or ip address]:80 or http://[computer name or ip address]:1214

Simple, no?

Yeah, I figured that much, what I was curious about though is how, and why it only works in Opera and IE.

It works because thats the infomation kazaa gives out... there's no simplier explaination. Why it only works in IE and opera.. who knows? Maybe Kazaa is only based on IE (and opera emulates IE)...who knows?

maybe someone in R/W Systems can explain this

david@rocambole david $ dig www.lol.com

Or it's a script that opens a socket to your running Kazaa and retrieves the sharing list and then displays it. It's probably not a hard thing to do. Just have to read up on the Kazaa protocol and connect... :)

And no you can't stop it since Kazaa is running.

It's got nothing to do with Kazaa, it opens http://localhost, which defaults to port 80.

Kazaa just happens to sometimes use port 80 if port 1214 isn't available, eg if its firewalled.

Reckon thats my smoothwall[.org] firewall box coming into play there to stop me from viewing this rouge site.

aye, it just reverts the user back to localhost - its probably something simple like SSI - telling it to include the localhost page but nothing else

Are you all stupid or something? Someone explain to these morons that:

127.0.0.1 IS THE SAME AS LOCALHOST.

All www.lol.com does is resolve to localhost, meaning any browser will see the stuff they are hosting if they have a server running on localhost.

Someone having a bad day?
We know that 127.0.0.1 is the same as localhost. In fact, if you look at my post, I already stated:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
