I am not sure where to put this, but I figured this would be a good place so the general public cant see it.

So, why is HTML code disabled for posts? Is there a security reason for this? The reason for me asking is that I was trying to post a video and I could not embed it into the post and the link was some funky flash redirect thing so the direct link wouldnt work either.

Just a question of curiosity. :)

Well okie dokie... thanks EP. That cleared it right up! :)

It is a security reason. If we allowed any and all HTML to be used that would mean people could use bad javascript to do cross site scripting attacks, as well as replace random parts of our site with their images using CSS.

If it has to be embedded, put it in an HTML file, and put that online somewhere, and link to it.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for clearning it up. :)

And don't forget, if you need help with HTML code you can use the CODE VB tags.

Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>madmatt rocks</title>
</head>
<body>
  <h1>madmatt rocks</h1>
</body>
</html>

haha, sorry for the short reply was gonna say what X did honest :)

They're handy for <pre> formatting the text, but not completely necessary. You can just type HTML directly into your post.

<html>
<head>
<title>moo</title>
</head>
<body>Cookies FTW!</body>
</html>
:D

Sure. :) Its ok though, I got the drift. :p

So whats the difference between typing out HTML and pasting HTML from an outside source? How does vBulletin know the difference? Or does it just block certain parts of HTML code from working?

All text entered into the db is parsed by php, which strips the <> and uses iso-codes for them, e.g. &lt ;

There is no difference o_0...

The only difference between what Matt and I did was that he used code tags, where-as I did not.

I realize that, I just had a semi retarded moment. :) I understand how the system works now, j79zlr explained the part that was confusing me.

He's good like that, a rep-worthy guy (when he posts) and totally unspamming (though no doubt he may post back to prove me wrong!)

Thank

you

/me wonders if a mod is going to merge those posts and remove all the humour? :)

I hate not being able to use my normal right click options as show below. Why is this happening? Also, if I try to edit a post with an image it will show the image instead of code.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
