How to keep default browser settings

I have a little annoying problem. I only have IE6 installed on my computer.... no other browsers. If I let IE check to see if it is the default browser... every time I open it it asks me if I want it set to default. I've even tried to set it in set program access and default in XP. Doesn't work. The only work around I have is to uncheck the box in tools, options, programs. Any other way to fix this?

the option you are selecting is specifically designed for situations like this...

hence it would be prudent to uncheck it under the tools > options settings and allow IE to run as default browser without checking for other browsers... specially if you are not using any others...

I'm not really sure I'm following the issue, but anyway;

right click on your menue, explore all users, set all program access and defaults.

in there, will be pull down trees for whatever you do want to make default

Sazar is correct this is the suggested way to deal with this situation.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284456 + Referances, just shows MS thinking.

Strange that it asks everytime but keep your setting as is and your OK.

Did you have another browser installed before BTW? Just wondering. If thats the case it may be as simple as some of the associations not been transfered back to IE.

Its not really a problem anyway, is it?

Not really a problem... but it never did that before until recently... no installs or uninstalls recently either. Just one day it decided to do that. And no.. never had another browser on this install.
Guess my computer decided I had to many MS products installed on it :happy:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
