Somehow I have caused all my Desktop shortcuts to have .lnk as the extension.
Does anyone know how I can undo this?
    thanks in advance,

Check if there is a string value named "NeverShowExt" at

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

If it isn't there create it.

    yoyo,
    thanks for reply.
There isn't a "NeverShowExt", but I need more detail on how to create it.
    thanks again,

At HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile rightclick an empty spot in the right pane, choose New > String Value, type: NeverShowExt, leftclick an empty spot in the window or hit Enter, close regedit and reboot.

That is the wrong key. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT goes through the abc two times. The key you are looking for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile is in the second round. Just hit L on your keyboard to get near it, then scroll.

Gaahh! Now all my IE Favorites have .url appended to them. What is going on with this thing?
Do you know how to fix this one?
    thanks again,
