How can I get rid of the shortcut arrows on the desktop?

    I found this tweak

    1. Start regedit.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
    3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

    but I don't seem to have "inkfile" So is there another way?

    You surely have! You only have to scroll down further. I just see you wrote inkfile - it is lnkfile (means link). TweakUi can do also, btw.
