    Hello,

I use AIM with AIM+ (a 3rd party addon) and I have seen screenshots with AOL Instant Messenger in away mode, except the annoying away window isn't on the start menu (bar)... anyone have any idea how this is done?

Quite easy to do, actually. :)
Open up AIM Preferences, switch to the "Buddy List" category on the left, and check the box marked "Hide taskbar button when buddy list window is minimized."
This option hides the away msg window from the taskbar when you click the minimize button as well.

My version doesn't seem to have that option...

Not sure...I'm on the latest version, but I think it existed in 4.7 as well.
Take a look at the attached screenshot:
