I recently compressed my servers hard drive, my mums pc has a folder on the server it uses for its "my documents" this was compressed in the process,

She has recently done a 8 page stock list 3hours work she says, and it will not open along with any of the other documents, so i tried to uncompress her folder called "debra" and it comes up with the error "an error occurred applying attributes to the file C:/Shared/Debra/Co.../Cobwebs Stock List.xls Access Denied"

Any Idea How I can get round this?

Please help cos she has like 80 documents most of em are backed up but her newer ones are not!

i know this doesn't help your situation... and i'm not sure anything will... but be sure to never compress a drive ever again... nothin' but trouble IMO...

Try uncompressing the folder to a hard drive that has the same file system. If your using NTFS on the compressed drive, try uncompressing it on a NTFS formatted drive. Hope this helps. ;) :)

G'day Jason. If you see this use a different code for your sig.

without the x's :)

or

I've seen that error when the file has been encrypted by another user.

Could it be that you encrypted the files instead of compressing them? (The two options are directly beside each other in the Advanced Attributes window.) That might explain your inability to copy the files.

If this is the case, you can only access encrypted files using the account that originally encrypted them (the account on your server, I presume). Any other account -- like that of your mother's PC -- would be unable to open or copy the encrypted files.

Double-check that your account on the server didn't encrypt the files. If it did, you must use that account to un-encrypt them.

And/or (although you've probably already checked this,) are you sure the file isn't currently opened with another program/account?

Good luck!
