Hard Drive gone

I have a hard drive that is in a swappable bay. I put it in the other day to see what I had on it, its usually audio data on these drives, and nothing came up.

Windows tells me the drive isnt formatted and asks if I want to format it now. I'm thinking there WAS something on this drive but Im not sure what happened to it.

Is there any software I can get to see if something is actually on the drive and maybe retrieve anything of importance?
