getting the most out of pc hardware

hi im looking into getting a new pc but im really trying to figure out whats my best option to go with for what i wanna do with the pc , im looking to put something together that will support my cd recorder to its fullest capabilities for example right now i have a 12x recorder but no matter what i do the fastest i can get on this recorder is 8x and thats with 1024 of ram and pentium 3 processor on an intel ca810 board soooo i dont want to get a 24x recorder and cant use it to its fullest can someone help me with this

Are you sure it's not the discs you are using??? how fast is your P3?? I get 32X with my burner on a Athlon XP 1800+. Also, it will only burn at 12X for a little under half of the time

yeah, a p3 should have NO problem burning at any speed. try using different discs to burn.

Is the drive in DMA mode ?
