With the video card i have now, should upgrade to geforce 5600 or the ultra version. I have about 150 to play with. I think i need something with alittle more kick. I feel my video card is becoming a bottleneck. Will there be a noticable increase in proformance ?

with the 5600 ultra.. yes.. you will notice a big increase in performance plus you will be able to see things that your current card may have been incapable of rendering in the newest video games...

the 5600 non-ultra may not be such a good buy.. so think twice before considering that baby...

How does the 5600 ultra match up to the ATI 9500 pro?

Performance at what?
Spreadsheets and word processing? No.
Gaming? Hell yes, about twice the frame rate w/high texture!

Speed wise the FX 5600 Ultra and the 9500 PRO are neck and neck. Can't find a good comparison review on the straight FX 5600 though.

I'm also confused about the 5600 pricing. It ranges from 130-200 for the straight 5600 and the 5600 ultras are in the 200 range and all with the same amount of RAM?

The 9500 PRO is running 180 now. The straight 9500 is 135 but slower compared to the 5600 ultra and 9500 PRO. The new 9600 PRO is also around 180 and in the same speed range.

Find out more about the reason for that price spread before picking a 5600 card.

the 9500pro is more powerful than the 5600ultra :)

The madonion and -330 and 2003 looked pretty close even at high aniso and antialiasing settings.

But since I bought the 9500 PRO instead of the 5600 Ultra I'll defer to Sazar's judgement. :D

PS Still trying to figure out the pricing spread on the 5600's.

its the architecture... the nv3x architecture is generally weaker than ati's architecture when it comes to dx9 and the 9500pro handles things quite well in todays apps v/s the 5600ultra in terms of 3d apps :)

practically all reviewers will give the 9500pro the tip over the 5600ultra...

but you have to be quick about it since 9500pro is no longer going to be produced... therefore may be hard to find :)

Actually I'm feeling real happy right now. Sazars comment got me to go look at all the submittals on Futuremark and I found out why the tomshardware review made the cards look equal.

The tom's review must have used the 320 release of mark2003. The 5600 utlra scores were close to my 9500 PRO.

Then I compared my scores with just the 330 release results (the one that fixed the "cheating tricks") my score dropped from 3609 to 3559. The 5600 ultra scores dropped from 3500 to under 2500 with the 'fixed benchmark".

Owwieee. Now I see what the big fuss was about!

Silky see if you can scrape up the extra $30 bucks for the 9500 PRO.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
