My friend is using FTP SERVER- U program and for some reason I can connect to his FTP over the Explorer I.e ftp://IP :username:password whatever the format is, but I can't connect to his server with lets say a FTP BROWSER such as CUTEFTP or SMARTFTP I get this error

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

What seems to be the problem, am I doing something wrong or is he doing something wrong ?

the correct format is ftp://user;pass@IP. Does your pal have a firewall that is improperly configured? Try connecting with his firewall off. Check ports and stuff (usually 21) and maybe even try turning your firewall off, if you have one. You should check ports because although the default is 21, to specify it, you would type ftp://use;pass@IP;port. Hope that helps.

could be his server . maybe it's not setup correctly.
i got the servu on my computer too. if u want to check your cute ftp or some other browser on my server here's a link

ftp://162.83.210.176:31300

that's for IE
and host 162.83.210.176 id:pass are anonymouse, so u dont need to put anything in cute ftp and port 31300. check your programs if u want

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
