    I hate Windows!

I'm trying to format... when I load the XP disk I get:
To set up XP on the selected item, press enter.

When I seleted the partition and click enter I get:
To install XP on the partition you selected, setup must write some startup files to thefollowing disk.

However, this disk does not contain a Windows XP compatible partition. To contine installing XP, return to the partition selection screen abd create a XP compabibe partition on the disk above. BLAH BLAH.

How do I make the partition XP compatible?

I have 4 partitions. I've deleted the partition but still receive the above message :(

No not to C. When the patition were deleted it re-lettered the other partitions. C now has all my 'programs' on it. D and E are 'Unknown' abd F is just labelled 'Stuff'

Delete all partitons with fdisk and boot off the Windows XP CD. Use the partitioner and formatter from within XP Setup to make and format your partitions.

This will not work if your PC doesnt support bootable CDs, or your XP CD will not boot directly from itself.

Save them? Maybe if you had another computer you could back that stuff up...

    If not :(

A friend is bringing his computer to work tomorrow (I'm off but will go in now). We'll set his HD as master and copy my files over to his, then fdisk my HD

Goodie. Then you can save the data. Horray! Backup seems like the only way out at the mo. :) (We worked for hours on IRC last night, no go.)
