HI guyz i forgot to backup registry and made these changes in reg
for speedy shutdown

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\Control And on the right select WaitToKillServiceTimeout

setting it to 5-10sec should do the trick (that would be 5000-10000)

I set mine to 2000 and it shuts down a lot faster now.

also try going to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

and changing HungAppTimeout & WaitToKillAppTimeout to about 200 or 300

Now i want my original settings back .
plz inform me what were the default values ,that i have changed as above.
thanx

The default values (taken from a brandnew installation XP-Home SP1) should be:
WaitToKillServiceTimeout 20000
HungAppTimeout 5000
WaitToKillAppTimeout 20000

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
