You probably get this question loads of times, but please bear with me.
I downloaded a .bin file the other day but someone stuck an .exe suffix on it(or XP did it). Windows thinks it an executable and pops a MSshortcut to it everytime I try to look at it. I managed to get around it by trying different programs that ignored the .exe, but I'd rather know how to change the suffix in WinXP. even if its not the correct suffix.

Tools -> Folder Options -> View. Uncheck 'Hide Extensions for Known File Types.'

    Now take off the .exe.
