Dsl/cable combo

I have DSL and cable connected to one computer using 2 NICS. I have these 2 connections for speed concerns (capped on cable)
Once i have the 2 connections active, my speeds on both connections drop below dialup. If only one of the connections is goin, the speeds are great. I NEED to have both connections active at all times. Any suggestions besides building another computer?

WinXP pro
AMD 1.4
MSI KT7 limited edition MB
multiple hard drives
512 Mb Ram

Set up a network bridge:

Just bridge the two network interfaces of the two modems and it will utilize both as one interface

I tried bridging before and my connections were worse than originally started. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the bridge suppose to take the best of both connections and optimize into one ? e.g 2m download/128 upload on one and 768/768 on other to make it 2m /768 ? or very close to that ?

It will allow you to use both connections, and it should utilize the upload and download of both modems.
