Drives are missing!

I tried to use my CD ROM and CD RW drives today and it wouldn't work. I have downloaded every update that I can find. I went to device manager and attempted to reinstall. This didn't help either. I am getting this error message:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

In My Computer, I don't see an E or F drive at all. Help!
