Well as the title says I had my Internet Explorer icon disappear from my desktop. I've since sort of fixed it as I replaced it with a shortcut to the IEXPLORE exe file but would still like toknow what caused it. Windows 2000 Pro with SP4 IE6SP1

download TweakUI from microsoft, and look in the Desktop part of it, then you can turn it back on

This reg file should bring back the IE icon on your desktop. Merge the file, then refresh the desktop.
