Desktop Icons

Im new to XP. I have found I cannot use white/light colored wallpaper!! Even when I change the desktop to white the icons always stay white! So on light colored wallpaper they don't show up good. On Windows 98 they change to black when using light desktop. Can anyone tell me if this can be changed??

right click on empty part of your desktop and click properties.
in display properties box - click on appearance tab and then click on advanced.
under icons - you can change fonts/ size and color

My Computer / properties / advanced
perfomance - settings / visual effects
uncheck the box
* use drop down shadows for icon labels on the desktop *
