I rebooted my PC (WinXP SP1) and it ran CHKDSK then got to the 3rd stage and started deleting orphaned files. The 180GB WD is partitioned twice, @ 80GB on the front with the OS and 100GB on the 2nd for app storage etc... It then proceeded to delete pretty much all of the files. I was able to log on finally and I have NAV2004, ran that and no viruses found. All the critical updates were applied and current prior to any problems. I ran EasyRecovery and was able to see the files and backed them up to a new drive. Now I pop in the backed up drive and it runs check disk again off of that?!!? What the hell is deleting orphaned files and how could they have been all corrupted and is there a way to get em back? If I skip the chkdisk then I am able to use those files without any problems so I'm totally stumped. I even had WD send me a new 180GB drive and it's doing it on that one too when I copy back the files.
