Um...50ms response time? Forget about doing anything on that. Just scrolling on a web page will make everything blur! You have to have AT LEAST below 30, 16-25 is nice for games. Id rather spend more on a quality brand-name 15" than a no-frills 17".

Also in the price range is the Samsung Syncmaster 173V, which is around AU$700.

Pretty much for that Samsung ( 700$ ) .. If you "climb" here you'll get the 191T at almost 750Euro  .. My 152V(my sig)was almost 354Euro and I'm still very impressed ..
I also recommend AGNeovo & Sony(no dead pixels) panels even are somehow expensive ..

Cosmin, those specs for the Samsung 173V are incorrect, this is off the samsung.com.au site:

    Type a-si TFT/TN
    Size 17"
    Pixel Pitch(mm) 0.297
    Brightness (cd/m²) 250
    Contrast Ratio 350:1
    Viewing Angle 140/120 degrees
    Interface Analog
    Aspect Ratio 4:3
    Response Time (ms) 25

And it has a native resolution of 1280x1024 as all 17" LCDs do. It also only has an analog interface, no DVI.
