Hi all !

Anyone knows about Dameware Mini Remote Control ?

What do I need to connect to a remote computer that is part of a network based on workgroups, no domain, and of course an internal ip (192.168.x.x), apart from its ip address/computer name/User name+password ?
I'm always rejected and can't assist a friend who's 2500km away. I'm under WinXP Pro SP1 and he is under Win98SE.

Help on this is more than welcomed !

We use Dameware in our corporate enviroment. The reason why you can't connect to his machine is that you cannot remote install the software on a 9x based machine. The only way you will be able to connect to his machine is if he installs the software first. You may also need to setup port forwarding for the software to contact the machine you are trying to get to.

Thank you LRNed !
You mean he has to install the service on his 9x machine, not the software itself ? Because he'd be unable to configure it...

Thank you for any extra info !

Yes he needs the service active on his machine. What happens when you first connect to a machine using 2000/xp it installs the Dameware service. Well this action isn't allowed on 9x. He would need to install the software on his machine for you to connect. Just the same way that you have to with PCAnywhere.

Confirm: the service has to be installed and active, not the entire software (Dameware Mini Remote Control) ?

Correct but the only way to get the service running on a 9x machine is to install the software client.

In the end, I have to send him "DWRCSInstall.Exe" and ask him to install it ?
Sorry, I just want to be sure !
Thanx !

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
