something to add
just in case this helps anyone assess my problem, the mouse only moves in the fashion stated before, when i have the "mouse filter" on. which is there to smooth out the frames when moving the mouse (and i normally have it on, so i'm quite used to it, i can't stand the way the game is without it, but obviously, now it sux).
