crash internet explorer with three stokes

dealer mine crashed just like you said it would

P4 1.6 Ghz
512 ddram
IE6.0.2800.1106 (128 Bit Encryption)
Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 Pro
XP Home with SP1

Works (crashes) for me. But who would call for help when a word is not found on a webpage? ;)

DFX you have a typo in there. It is shdocvw.dll not shdowcvw.dll.

Doesn't crash for me...

P4 1.8@2.5
512mb DDR
IE6 6.0.2800.1106
XP + SP1.

its ironic how everyone gets pissed off when their pc crashes, and now you fools are doing manually:D

BTW i cant be bothered to do this my pc has crashed 3 times today and i cant be assed to reboot again:cool:

3 times  What OS are you using?? win98? ;)

I'm assuming it just crashes IE, not your whole computer :)

Along the lines of a unhandled exception error i would guess.

Does Re-registering Shdocvw.dll work to correct this (all be it very minor) issue?

I dont see why it would but will test the theory later.

The other libraries you listed are not involed with this procedure.

it could be any of those dll's...this is actually a pretty common error (just a search of "shdocvw.dll" would give you hundreds). SHDOCVW.DLL is the WebBrowser Active X control that comes with IE. One example would be that it crashes Windows Explorer if you have a corrupt urlmon.dll. Re-registering those files worked for me though so maybe I'm lucky
;->. M$ puts out all these friggin' critical updates and a lot of times these files are the ones being updated. It's no wonder they pull patches the next day or 2 because of a flaw in the patch lately. Here's some file versions to check for that'll give you instant headaches:
SHDOCVW.DLL 5.00.2314.1000 & 4.72.3110.3

OLEAUT32.DLL
2.30.4265
2.40.4268
2.40.4275
5.0.4265

hope that helps
Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with all Microsoft products.

Shdocvw.dll (Shell Doc Object and Control Library) certainly is no Active X control. The version number for XP SP1 and the latest updates is 6.0.2800.1145. Maybe these latest updates are the reason for the crash. Just tried on a not updated XP Pro SP1 installation with shdocvw.dll version 6.0.2800.1106 and IE did not crash.

Tried this at work.....why not?....Not my PC

Nothing happened. System fine afterwards..

Dell Optiplex GX110 on ACPI
Intel Processor III @933Mhz
256MB RAM
Intel 82801AA chipset
WD 200BB-75AUA1 HDD
Intel 810 Graphics
Sony CD-RW X160E
3COM 3C920 ethernet
AC97 for 82801AA sound
82810C DC-133 sys&graphics controller.

Running IE 6.0.2600.0000

Weird eh?

Is this an Intel v AMD issue or is a .dll prob u think?

yo, yoyo, my bad :-> It's the WebBrowser Control that ships with IE. I just figured it was an active X control because you can also re-register it in Access. Under Tools \ Active X Controls, select Microsoft Web Browser, and if you click on it once you can see that the file is shdocvw.dll.
You're right though, I did the same thing on a box with shdocvw.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1106, which matched the ver. # of IE, and it was cool. But on another box that crashes I checked the shdocvw.dll and it was ver. 6.0.2800.1154. IE6 was ver. 6.0.2800.1106 though. My guess is a recent Windows Update updated this error for everyone

As I said earlier in this thread - mine crashes:

I have shdocvw.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1154 in C:\Windows\System 32 - it is dated 01/07 2003. I checked my Windows Update History and it shows nothing for that date.

I have shdocvw.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1106 shown in C:\Windows\Service Pack Files\i386

I have shdocvw.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1133 in both C:\Windows\Last Good\System32\dllcache & C:\Windows\Last Good\System32

As I stated earlier I am running IE6.0.2800.1106 (128 Bit Encryption)

So I guess that makes sense as I can see the progression from version 1106 (Service Pack) to 1133 (Last Good) and finally to 1154.

I still wonder where the 1154 came from on Jan 7th, 2003 as no Windows Update was done - or is the date shown in the popup ballon in search the actual date of the file - instead of the date it was installed? If that is the case, I did the Windows Media Player 9 Services and Codec updates on January 8th, 2003!
Could it have come from there???

Probably a .dll issue, there has been a fairly good mix of intel's and amd's crashing. :)

shdocvw.dll 6.0.2800.1154 jan,7th is part of the cumulative patch for Internet Explorer february 2003, Q810847.
shdocvw.dll 6.0.2800.1145 nov,27th is part of critical update Q810565

I installed both on the same day in the same Windows update session and it ended up with the older version installed. Strange isn't it?

i crashed too

xp home
amd athlon k7 550mhz
s30 mainboard
384 mb pc 100
nvidia riva tnt 2 64mb
