Hope someone can help me fix this annoying problem.
At random times my computer freezes, requiring me to press the reboot problem.
Looking in the event viewer, I have the following error:

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was C0000005 from line 44 of d:\qxp_slp\com\com 1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp.

The event code (if helpful) is 4609

I was wondering if it could be a service pack or hotfix....i will check out your link
thanks

Unforunately the fix they suggest is for XP Pro...I have XP Home

Well, I turned off 'start with windows' on MSN Messenger, and the computer hasn't frozen in over 4 hrs.
Don't know why this would cause it to freeze

because you probably has an msn virus or spyware attached to the program that activates when it starts.

haha, think i'll keep my mouth shut bout messenger and viruses, lmao :)

I think they could be right, run HiJackThis and see if you got any bugs...

See how long it stays stable

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
