Cannot defrag AVI files

    I do a defrag under windows xp....when it finishes I view the report, only to find that all .AVI files are still fragmented.....so I run a check disk, and try again.......Same deal......does anyone know how I can defrag these files? this is a real hassel.....thanks

    if you don't have very much free space on the drive...that's why.

    if you want to defrag all files, you have to have a significant amount of free space to "work with"

    have enough space......25 gigs.......

    try to move the file that's not defragging;

    Click the right mouse button and drag the file to its new location. When you release the mouse button, Windows pops up a menu from which you can choose whether you want to copy, move, or create a shortcut to the target file.

    a move will put the file in a differant location on the disc

    see if that does anything

    that only works when moving it from one disk to another, if you move a file to a different folder, it just tells the OS that the same data in the same place physically is in a different folder.
