Is there any way to change the boot screen in XP w/o using any type of software to do it?

yeah that is if you have not installed sp1 yet, do this, download a bootscreen, first make a backup of the original bootscreen, then reboot in save mode, go to C:\Windows\System32 (should be in there), copy the new bootscreen, and paste it into the system32 directory. Then reboot normal and it should be okay.

Though i recommend not to do this, because if you have a faulty bootscreen or if you do anything wrong you can screw your computer big time. Happened to me and i had to reinstall xp, lost all of my data...so it's up to you.

For more info go to: www.themexp.org, and then click the How To button...

Enjoy!

yeah i tried it, but then i wouldn't start up anymore...like i said....how do i change it in sp1 then?

Changing the bootscreen in sp1 is possible.....But make sure the ntoskrnl.exe is the right one .

The original ntoskrnl is a smaller size?
For some reason M/S has made the sp1 ntoskrnl larger in size?
The original size is 1.88....sp1..1.94

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
