Best Compression Utility

Winrar is more versatile than winzip. WinRAR *usually* gets better compression

7zip is free, has great compression, but has a bad interface (in my opinoin)

WinZip is the defacto standard.. has a great interface, and *usually* has the slowest/worst compression ratios.

I like how WinZip 10 lets you choose how small the chunks are when you compress them, versus the 1.44MB, 100MB forced sizes (for example).

I still prefer WinRAR, but that is a nice feature.

I don't hate WinRAR, it is a must have. However, I like WinZip more. WinZip 10 (as Derek said) is much improved over previous versions (thank you Corel).

so when you say a must have, tell me what those programs have that ultimate zip doesn't

Honestly Perris, I don't know. I've never used it. I've always used WinZip as my primary and WinRAR to open RARs.

i use winrar,too although i know 7zip is better.It has everything i want.

I personally use both winrar and winzip, it depends on what I need to compress. I like to use winzip more though. I have been using winzip since they began. I still have the floppy they mailed me from years ago. Too bad I gotta pay to upgrade to winzip 10. :(

Hey if ya want just use them both.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
