what's so odd was when i first logged in to my profile the shadows and transparency weren't showing at all. i tried clicking them with no avail. and when i created the other profile there it was every icon on the dektop have shadows and the titles are transparent. then i created the third profile there it was again same as my profile. no shadows no transparency
    any one?

I had a similar problem, I download Microangelo 5.5 and theres a setting there that fixed the transparency
