Does anyone know if there is a way to force games to run in 1280 x 1024? More specifically, Morrowind. I've got a 17" LCD and the native resolution is 1280 x 1024 but a few games like Morrowind only support 1280 x 960 which means I may aswell play it in 1024 x 768, it will never look sharp enough on my screen.

In fact, does anyone know why this (some might say unusual) resolution was chosen for 17" LCD screens?

All monitors are 4:3 which includes 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960 and so forth. However manufacturers of 17" TFT's seem to of gone for 5:4 (1280x1024) which is a resolution that many things don't support. I honestly have no idea why the hell this was ever decided.

Take a look at http://widescreengamingforum.com and http://www.tigerdave.com/wgl/ ... both focus on gaming in widescreen, whilst that's not what you're after, they're basically making games run at resolutions not originally intended/available, hopefully there will be some help there :)

Edit: Try this: http://www.tigerdave.com/wgl/#elderscrolls3

The 1280x1024 is close to the ratio on TV screens. Since there is more money/volume to be made in consumer electronics than PC they are using the TV format.

Can the video card just insert a blank bar on the side? Like the bars at top and bottom when watching widescreen on a regular TV? I guess nobody has thought of that yet.

Speedy B, you are a legend. Thanks to you I have accomplished in less than a minute what I failed to do over a period of 12 months: I've got Morrowind up and running in 1280 x 1024! Cheers! :)
Reps out obviously.

It's possible, it's just a waste of screen space though :)

Ray, glad to help.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
