Ubuntu client ldap for implicitly trusted servers

On ubuntu clients (certainly 12.04/12.10) for some daft reason they linked ldap-utils against gnutls and linked that against a broken crypto backend due to GPL issues. If you trust the server you are talking to implicitly then make /etc/ldap/ldap.conf look like this: # # LDAP Defaults...

    NEW BUILD for 2012

Just jump on the i7 and gtx 680 :) The GTX 680 is cooler, quieter and waaaaaaaaaaaay faster than the 560ti and will last you a good 5-10 years as long as it doesn't fail in the mean time.

News Windows 8 Consumer Preview Available

I really think people are seriously over reacting. My usage of windows didn't change in 8 and 8 actually decreases the time taken to get to seldom used apps. Frequent apps can be dropped on the desktop or pinned to the task bar as in 7 so no operational change really. It's like getting used to...

Outlook 2010 Attachment security group policy not applying...

I never got to the bottom of it myself. In the end I told the desktop user that we'd done everything according to instructions from Microsoft and if it still wasn't working he'd have to make do. We even tried local machine registry edits as well at one point.

News Windows 8 Consumer Preview Available

I find it faster myself. Win 8 on the whole is much snappier. I do admit though I have the desktop and taskbar configured exactly the same as on win 7 and only use the start screen for seldom used stuff. How I use windows hasn't really changed at all. The only problem I have with win 8 is all...

News Windows 8 Consumer Preview Available

Not really. It is just that 95% of people are going to resist adapting to highly efficient changes in interaction because it changed, not because it is bad or slower.

Overall I like it. It's snappier than windows 7 at a technical level, keyboard and mouse work quite well with the metro start ui now as well. The change over is quite jarring though and this will be a major barrier to adoption. While faster once you adjust. Most people being human and not...

You can make a local account too. However linking it to a hotmail/windows live mail account is handy for storing settings on microsofts cloud systems.

    AnyDVD HD Alternative

VLC has basic blu--ray support and is the only way to do it on linux. Best bet: fix windows and do it properly :) Linux will be lucky to get proper blu-ray support due to licensing and certification costs.

    Vlc 2.0

Most people on earth are satisfied with "good enough". madVR gives extremely accurate (and highly configurable) image resize/rescale to a degree that nvidia/ati/microsoft don't bother providing by using gpu shaders. See madVR - high quality video renderer (GPU assisted) - Doom9's Forum for...

    Vlc 2.0

I can only provide it via PM as it's on an anime episode download site. If you want it let me know and I'll pm the link. As to playback - it plays everything I throw at it except bink/smacker which a lot of games use. I understand licensing issues prevents updates to that.

    Vlc 2.0

Use whatever you want, VLC however is the last thing you should be using for media playback on windows :) Even the windows mplayer port (smplayer) is better than VLC. But really you want to be using MPC-HC, madVR renderer, LAV filters, Haali Splitter and Reclock for the best possible playback on...

    Vlc 2.0

I will keep telling everyone this every time they mention VLC: Do. Not. Use. It. You simply get superior playback with mpc-hc + madvr + LAV Filters, Haali splitter and reclock. Keep using the setup I linked to you a while back and be happy.

USB is fine really unless you are a gamer and somehow need to press and hold more than 6 keys at once.

Windows 7 doesn't see my IBM Model M PS/2 keyboard

Windows should have no issue with it. Rescan for non-pnp devices in device manager and see if that pokes it at all.
